Twiplomacy: PM Modi’s South Korea visit’s timeline

PM Narendra Modi visited the Republic of Korea for the second time after his last visit in 2015 at the invitation of President Moon Jae-in.

He visited Seoul, the country’s capital for two days to strengthen the special strategic partnership between the two nations. Earlier ahead of his visit he told media “India shares a very friendly relation with South Korea”.

Here’s a Glimpse of his timeline at Seoul:

“My visit to the Republic of Korea is reflective of the importance we both attach to our relationship. We regard the Republic of Korea as a valued friend, a nation with which we have a Special Strategic Partnership”.

Just as he visited, he was greeted by a huge crowd of Indians at the lobby of the hotel who waived the Indian flag with some selfie clicking sessions with the PM.

As fellow democracies, India and the ROK have shared values and a shared vision for regional and global peace. As fellow market economies, our needs and strengths are complementary.” PM Modi said.

Mayor of Gimhae Heo Seong gon called on PM Modi in Seoul. Modi gifted a Bodhi tree sapling as a mark of close ties between our two countries. Gimhae and Ayodhya have a sister-city relationship.

During his address, PM Modi called companies from the Republic of Korea to invest in India

Later PM Modi unveiled Mahatma Gandhi Bust at Yonsei University. Speaking there he highlighted twin challenges of Climate Change and Terrorism.

“The growing depth and variety in our relationship have been accentuated by the harmony between our ‘Act East Policy’ and ROK’s ‘New Southern Policy’. Working together, we are determined to take our relationship forward as a future-oriented partnership for People, Prosperity and Peace. Our people to people ties and exchanges, as always, provide the bedrock of our ties of friendship”, said the PM.

He also addressed the vibrant Indian community in Seoul.

Further, he said that India’s collaboration in science and technology is encouraging with its joint research ranging from basic to advanced sciences.

Later Prime Minister was accorded an official reception at The Blue House, the executive office & official residence of President.

Prime Minister held talks with South Korean President Moon Jae-in enhancing cooperation in trade & investment, defence & security, energy, space, Start-Ups and people-to-people exchanges.

PM Modi and President Moon held talks about heightening cooperation in the arenas of trade & investment, defence and security, energy, energy, space, start-ups, and people-to-people exchanges. A day prior to this the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) passed a resolution which convicted the attack in the “strongest terms”.

Six documents were signed/exchanged between India-ROK in the presence of PM Modi and Korean President Moon Jae-in, including on cooperation in media, police and start-ups, among others

During his two day visit to the country, he also received the Seoul Prize which was announced last year due to his recognition in his dedicated service to international cooperation, global growth and human development.

Prior to receiving the award, PM Modi urged the international community to act for uniting and fighting against terrorism, after the horrific Pulwama Attack. His comments on terrorism were on the motive to improve bilateral cooperation on a host of areas. Apart from counter-terrorism.
